Ubisoft to buy THQ assets?

Assassin’s Creed publisher Ubisoft is reportedly one of the top candidates interested in purchasing THQ’s assets, following the company’s bankruptcy filing this week. Sources have told MCV that the French publisher has shown interest in buying THQ’s wholly-owned studios and franchises.

THQ’s internal studios include Relic Entertainment, Volition, THQ Montreal, and Vigil Games. Some of the companies biggest properties are Saints Row, Red Faction, Homefront, Metro, and Company of Heroes.

This is not the first time Ubisoft has publicly acknowledged interest in THQ’s properties. Last month, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said, “They have good things. We are always interested in good brands. For sure, it’s something we can consider, but I can’t tell you more.”

MCV’s sources say Ubisoft has held “lengthy discussions” with THQ to get a deal done. One of the main sticking points in the negotiations, according to the sources, is that of price. Ubisoft is reportedly interested in a “bargain buy,” and will hold out until THQ decides to sell specific properties instead of a total package.

Representatives from THQ and Ubisoft were not immediately available to comment.

Assassin’s Creed III sells 7 million

PeterDuck You seem very butthurt. Here is some more math for you. Sorry, I thought you would be able to do some math yourself but I assumed wrong.

AC3 Launched October 30. October 30 to December 12 is 43 days.

1 day = 24hours

24 x 43 = 1032 hours.

On average a person has spent 10.27 hours playing assassin’s creed 3, in 43 days which has 1032 hours.

1032 – 10.27 = 1021.73 hours remaining.

How do you know they were not building bridges and roads and doing productive labour is those remaining hours? Take away sleeping hours, eating, relaxing time etc.

This statement hurts my brain “We are not talking 8200 consecutive years  here, we’re talking a couple of months and 71,832,000 man hours dumped into playing just one game (not counting all the other games out there)”

We are also talking about 7million copies sold, meaning 7million people that have played the game. Each individual person on average has spent 10.27 hours playing it.

So with your logic 7million people should have used 10.27 hours being productive. Even though you cannot say with any certainty or proof if those people actually wasted any time.

How do you know the number of people that played the game after they got home from work or the weekends? How do you know how many students played the game? How do you know how many of those people were not productive? You seem to know a lot about these 7 million people to assume they “wasted time”.

Kind of puts things into perspective when you start to realize the countless variables that exist.

Next Assassin’s Creed set in Brazil?

The next Assassin’s Creed game may be set in Brazil. Ubisoft Brazil managing director Bertrand Chaverot told Techtudo this week that the next entry in the company’s stealth-action series is heading to the South American country.

The report was published in Portuguese and GameSpot has confirmed the translation. A representative from Ubisoft’s North American outfit was not immediately available for comment.

The Assassin’s Creed franchise is no stranger to Brazil. This year’s Assassin’s Creed III had missions set in the South American country.

Ubisoft has released a new core Assassin’s Creed game every year since 2009, though no new entry is confirmed for 2013. However, a recent Ubisoft survey suggested a new game in the franchise–that may include co-op–could be on store shelves next year.

Nintendo blocking 18+ Wii U content in Europe until 11 p.m.

Nintendo of Europe is blocking Wii U content in the region that is rated PEGI 18+ between the hours of 3 a.m. and 11 p.m., according to a Eurogamer report. Under these stipulations, the four-hour window of 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. is the only time users can purchase games like ZombiU or Assassin’s Creed III or even view trailers for such games.

The story originated from a NeoGAF forum user, which reportedly received an email from Nintendo saying the following:

“Dear customer, we would like to let you know that Nintendo has always aimed to offer gameplay experiences suited to all age groups, observing carefully all the relevant regulations regarding content access that are present in the various European countries. We have thus decided to restrict the access to content which is unsuitable to minors (PEGI) to the 11 p.m.- 3 a.m. time window.”

Eurogamer has since verified the claim. It received a message stating “You cannot view this content” and “The times during which this content can be viewed have been restricted.”

Nintendo has yet to comment on the matter.
