Indie Royal All-Charity Lightning Pack Out Now

Say what you will about how overwhelmingly prevalent they are in PC gaming these days, I still love me some indie bundles. They allow for the cheap purchasing of some really awesome, often experimental indie games that you perhaps wouldn’t check out for a more inflated price, all while giving to a good cause. This time around, 100% of the money spent on the Indie Royale All-Charity Lightning Pack will be going to charity. Included in the pack are Osmos, B.U.T.T.O.N., The Shivah, and Blueberry Garden.

While Osmos is beautiful and The Shivah is thought provoking, the standout here for me definitely is B.U.T.T.O.N. Created by the Copenhagen Games Collective, some of the folks behind the amazing and insanely fun “folk game” Johann Sebastian Joust, it asks players to be as goofy as possible while rushing to press a button on their personal controller. It’s super frantic and awesome and totally worth your $whatever.

Grab the games at the Indie Royale website. But hurry up, because the price is always going up. If you pay more than $7, you get three albums by chiptunes artists thrown in, including one by Disasterpiece, the mind behind Fez’s amazing soundtrack.

Anno 2070: Deep Water Add-on Coming This Fall

Ubisoft plans to expand the breadth of its city-building RTS, in the form of an add-on called Anno 2070: Deep Ocean. The new expansion will offer new buildings, units, tech trees, population classes and quests. It seems like it will be a fairly extensive add-on, content-wise.

A concrete release date isn’t available yet, but Ubisoft assures us it will be sometime this fall. Presumably it will be a paid expansion rather than a free content pack, but the price has also yet to be announced. More info closer to the release date will undoubtedly be available on the official Anno 2070 site.

Tribes: Ascend Content Update Coming Soon

Players of Tribes: Ascend’s Raider class will be pleased to know that some new goodies are coming your way. An update pack later this week will contain some new weapons and skins for Raiders. The skins are real-money only, as cosmetic items in free-to-play games tend to be, but the weapons will be unlockable with XP points.

If you haven’t played Tribes: Ascend yet, you are making terrible, terrible life choices. As our review from last week indicates, it’s one of the finest multiplayer shooting games available on the PC today, and it’s free to boot!

Crysis 3 announced for spring 2013

Crysis 3 will be released for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in spring next year, EA has announced. The Crysis 2 follow-up, set in 2047, sees returning character Prophet discover New York sealed inside a dome by the nefarious Cell Corporation. Under New York’s Liberty Dome, the city has become an “urban rainforest teeming with overgrown trees, dense swamplands and raging rivers,” according to EA, and is split into seven distinct and treacherous environments known as the Seven Wonders.

Crysis 3 out spring 2013.

EA confirmed a 2013 release for the next in its sci-fi shooter series in the wake of last week’s leak of the game in Origin.com product pages. The game will be powered, as Crysis titles before it, by developer Crytek’s proprietary engine, CryEngine. In it, Prophet will wield a lethal composite bow (as seen in the box art), an enhanced nanosuit, and “devastating alien tech” against human and alien enemies on his mission for retribution against Cell Corporation.

Crysis 3 Hunter Edition is available for preorders from today for $60 or £40, and includes a bonus XP boost up to level five, a unique bow skin, and three exclusive dog tags. Select retailers will also offer preorder bonuses in the shape of early multiplayer unlocks. The Stalker Pack makes the semi-auto Jackal shotgun available earlier; the Overkill Pack gives early access to the Typhoon assault weapon; and the Predator Pack unlocks the Feline submachine gun.

Square Enix Announces Sleeping Dogs Release Date

Square Enix has called upon a professional face puncher to wear a Sleeping Dogs t-shirt and stare menacingly at gamers. Alright, alright, I’m exaggerating slightly. Slightly. Georges St. Pierre, the ass-kicking UFC champ, has partnered with Square on Sleeping Dogs to help the devs design realistic martial arts combat. He’s also lending his name to pre-order bonus packs — bonus packs announced today along with Sleeping Dogs’ release date.

Square announced this morning that Sleeping Dogs, the game formerly known as True Crime: Hong Kong, will launch on August 14. For those of you that like buying your games at retail, you can pick up the below in-game goodies at the specified retailers. Digital versions of the game for PC will also offer pre-order bonuses, Square said, but it’s not quite ready to share.

Best Buy Georges St. Pierre (GSP) Pack:

  • GSP’s signature flying punch
  • Exclusive GSP outfit including T-shirts, headband and shorts
  • GSP’s outfit unlocks the flying punch and increases grappling and throwing damage
  • GameStop Police Protection Pack:

  • Exclusive High Speed Mission
  • Exclusive HK Police SWAT Outfit
  • Exclusive assault rifle
  • Exclusive SWAT Police Vehicle
  • Amazon Martial Arts Pack:

  • Shaolin Showdown Mission
  • Shaolin Warrior outfit (with increased striking damage)
  • Bonus Triad XP points
  • Wing Chun decoration for safehouse (with temporary combat buff)
